It's Show time !!! Bammmm....It's here !!

Good evening,


...And just like that it's the end of the year and show season. Can anyone tell me where the start of the year went? I'm bracing myself, as I am about to get busy. Are you coming along for the ride? Here is a quick summary.


On the Road


This month QuiltNSW have their annual show. It is held at Rosehill Gardens at the Racecourse. The event runs from Thursday 19 Sept to Sunday 22 Sept - 9.30am - 4pm each day.

We will be having a stand with our own business, as well as supporting BERNINA. We have a combined stand. You can preorder/purchase items to be taken to the Show and picked up there. If there are particular things you have been looking at, but have been unable to get into the shop to purchase them, here is an easy way.

We leave Rosehill on the Sunday night and head straight to Wentworthville Leagues club for Bernina training on the Monday / Tuesday after. Then the Wednesday brings BERNINA Academy. 25 Sept – 28 Sept 2024 , 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day.

Please note the workshop prices include use of machines, haberdashery, fabrics and everything you need. You walk in empty handed and walk out with a fabulous "make", a sense of achievement and a heart full of creative love.


We have a little nap and repack the car then head to the Bulli Quilt and Flower Show, where will we be selling lots more fun sewing items. Come along to this wonderful local show, see some quilts, listen to piano tunes, eat scones and it goes without saying, buy stuff from me :) Again we are happy to take specific orders there.

The following Friday we join the Illawarra Quilters at Stanwell Tops for their annual retreat. This is a sold out event, but you can become a member here

Again, we are happy to take specific orders there.


Next up we join the Presbyterian Ladies at The Tops conference centre for their annual Be Creative Retreat. I am unsure if this event is sold out or whether you can still join. I also am unable to find a link to enquire, so try your local church or HO Presbyterian Women's Association (pwansw.org.au)


Again, we are happy to take specific orders there.


And that's October, apart from family birthdays, running 2 shops and sleeping.


So, what's happening in the shops?

Classes


Vicky heads over to Lindfield on Wed 11 Sept (tomorrow) to be our guest teacher. She will teach her very popular free motion quilting basics class. There are still 2 or 3 positions available in this class if you would like to improve your skills or start to obtain them. It is very beginner's friendly, and Vicky is a wonderful teacher. You will learn lots and gain confidence to try this technique at home.



We welcome a fantastic new teacher, Janne Williams. We met through the Lindfield store and I love her enthusiasm and creativity. I am sure you will too.


Janne will teach a beginner's patchwork piecing class in Lindfield fortnightly, over 4 Saturdays in Oct / Nov. You are welcome to join this class for hand or machine piecing.


We will supply patterns and notes each week and explain how to design, cut and piece the blocks. You will start to piece these in class, learning about:

  • Cutting techniques

  • Marking techniques

  • 1/4 inch piecing

  • Pressing and sewing smaller blocks into larger ones 


It’s a fun, supportive and social environment, in which you can learn new skills and get the opportunity to sew. 


This 4 class series will run across Saturday 12/10, 26/10, 9/11, 23/11 10am - 3pm each day. To book you can use this link or come in store.


Now, if you are a more experienced piecer, but would like to upskill or some company and guidance whist you sew, you are welcome to join this class too. Please make contact or add that info in the comments section of the order. Both Janne and I would love to have you in store with us.


She will also teach a hooped embroidered art piece. We have set the dates for Lindfield, but she is willing to travel to Sylvania if we have enough people interested. I am hoping to have one of her pieces displayed at the QuiltNSW Show.

In an effort to get people started on their creative journey we have prepared some started kits that you can add your own flair to. Each is different so you can make it your original piece. One of these kits is included in your class fee. More will follow as these are sold. Of course you are welcome to purchase additional kits, so you can keep on stitching. Here is a glimpse to whet your appetite. Once you book you will be shown kit options and you can make your selection. First in best dressed.


This class is running Friday 8 and Friday 22 November 10am - 3pm each day



Deborah Louie is teaching her get to know your BERNINA class in Sylvania on 14 Sept. This class is now fully booked with a wait list. You are welcome to join the Lindfield class below. If you want another Sylvania class, please add your name to the wait list by coming into or phoning that shop.


She is teaching it again in Lindfield on Sat 30 Nov and there are still positions available in this class.


If you are quick and lucky you can book positions in her Thursday classes for the remainder of the year. There are a couple of positions in the below.

This month there are also some spots in her Saturday class. This is rare. To secure your position please book here.


Crystal will be teaching a Scan n Cut class in Sylvania. If you want this class in Lindfield please make contact with your expression of interest.

Pattern is included in the fee - Father Christmas Santa & his reindeer- a great table runner for Christmas! Finished size: 50" x 15"


This is great for High School teachers and students wishing to upskill. You are welcome to join this class and share our demo machine or bring a school machine and share it. Patterns and fees will remain one per person for copyright and tuition purposes.



Crystal will be teaching the ByAnnie Ultimate Travel Bag in Lindfield over 2 Saturdays in Oct / Nov. You will need to pre quilt and cut your fabric so please do not leave your booking until the last minute. We want to try and ensure you get as much of the bag complete during the classes.


You can pay us to quilt it as a large piece on our long arm frame. This often means you get another project from the fabrics. Please make sure the fabric is non directional in order to get as much from the fabric as possible.

We have lots of Blocks of the Month available for you to join.


Indulgence has not yet been advertised, but those who have seen it have joined up. We only have a couple of positions available. This is a fully paper pieced project


Those with a keen eye may spot some OOP favourite fabrics being used in this ....


There is one position left in our Pretty Pots BOM - this is made with some beautiful Tilda fabrics.



There are a couple of kits left for Flourish. These medallions are paper pieced and then appliqued onto a pieced background.


BoHo Hearts is another favourite made with a different range of Tilda fabrics




There are more I am saving for the next newsletter. Ok maybe I am behind on the corresponding paperwork - shhhh.


We are also busy preparing new packs and kits for the upcoming shows. Come and have a look and build your own quilt based on our pack options

We have just received these Anna Maria Horner 10 inch packs. They are very yummy. Limited stock in each shop and if there are any left at the Quilt Shows too.




We also received our Sally Kelly Fat 1/4 bundles as well. There are only 3 of these left, across the 2 stores.
