Classes, Clothing, Kits and More

Bernadette Hoy

Good morning,

Are your toes cold? It's a windy and cool Sunday morning here. Very quiet as people are still tucked under doonas (and quilts of course !!)

I wanted to highlight an open day we are having this coming Friday. Bree from BERNINA will be in store to talk us through lots of new stabilisers and machine embroidery products they now have available from OESD. She will be in store from 10am - 2pm and you are welcome to drop in anytime during this period. While there will be a formal element early in the day, we understand that people will drop in and out with questions. This day is open to all machine embroiderers and owners of all brands of machines. It is a free event, but we do encourage you to book so that we can manage chair and morning tea numbers.

I'll cover some more classes that are coming up before I head to specials and new stuff.

It's getting to the pointy end of the HSC major work period and we have our support class running during June. Students are welcome to work on their garment / piece or their portfolios during these classes. Numbers are limited to ensure we can give required support ready for July holiday work completion. Doing our best to relieve a little family stress. :)

This class has started to book but we have a couple of positions available.

If you own a SDX Brother Scan n Cut machine we are holding another beginner's class to ensure you gain lots of skills to ensure you are using your machine to its capacity. Saturday 3 June. If you want to come along here is some more information

ByAnnie Bag 1 day Workshop - Take a Stand Wednesday 14 June 2023

This class is now booked out and we are organising a second date to cater for those we couldn't fit into this one. The second class is about half full. If you were thinking about this class please make contact so that we can ensure we include you in new date discussions.

Classes during the July school holidays

We kick off the holidays with Deborah Louie in store imparting all of her Bernina knowledge.

Know your BERNINA Saturday 1 July . This class covers the sewing side of the machine. We will not have time to cover the hooped embroidery elements. It's perfect for Bernina machine owners or teachers who use the machines at school. Please bring your machine. For more details or booking please follow the link or come for a visit. This class is booking fast.

Monday 3 July Vicky is running a ruler work quilting beginner's class and still has 1 or 2 positions available. We will run this class again later on the year, but if you are a teacher and want to upskill or a student looking at Major work skills you might want to grab this position.

Next up is our Beginner's Class - 9 Patch cushion Tuesday 4 July

This class is open to any sewist wanting to learn more and is geared for High School aged students and above.

Thurs 6 July I will run a repeat class on Beginner's Overlocking. These have proved very popular this year and we have had teachers join to upskill and relieve a little class room stress. I have purposely scheduled this class during the holidays to allow students and teachers to join, but saying that anyone, with an overlocker will be warmly welcomed. We have seen a range of overlockers in the classroom so far this year in these classes.

Friday 7 July and Friday 21 July Vicky will be running the Dream Big free motion quilting class. This covers free motion and ruler work quilting. It is for quilters with intermediate quilting skills. This is not a beginner's class. It is a 2 day workshop.

Now this one I am very excited about Saturday 8 July we have Heleena teaching us how to make a Bomber Jacket. The jacket could be made for you or a family member. We'd just need their measurements. This is a one day workshop and our aim is to have you finish your jacket in the day. This would be a fun class to do with a friend. We might need a warm lining with these winter winds !! We have many people considering this class so if you are keen please book to secure your place. it will be a smaller number class to allow room for everyone to cut and sew. We have many different styles of jackets in store for you to view.

Monday 10 July I am rerunning our zippered pouch class

I'm using one of my samples as a travel make up pouch. I may have made 3 or 4 because I wanted to try different fabrics. Kits are included in this class fee. Shown here are students work from previous classes. Again this class would be suitable for High School students and above.

Then commences our week of American Paper Piecing or Foundation Piecing

We have 3 classes Tuesday 11, Wednesday 12 and Friday 14 July

Log Cabin Basics runs on the Tuesday to begin your skills

A pencil case is on the Wednesday and requires advanced beginner skills

On Friday we show you a different way to make quilt blocks. This is an intermediate class. We commence the quilt shown in the link in these same fabrics.

Because we have been looking at bag making I thought I would share a little inspiration project with you. This one is prepared by Brother and teaches you come of the features of your machine as well as explaining the benefits of a non stick foot. We have these feet for Brother, BERNINA, Bernette and Janome machines. We can even get them for some overlockers. If you would like to find out more about these feet for your machine, please ask us. PROJECT link

The May Accessory of the month for BERNINA is the clear foot

These feet are 20% off for May 2023

It is also your last chance to take advantage of the Hoop Specials from Bernina.

Bernina Midi Maxi Mega and Jumbo hoops are 10% off until the end of May 2023

The new Bernette Snap hoops are 25% off until the end of May 2023.

New fabrics ?? Why of course !! What will you make out of this glorious new Jennifer Paganelli Lovely Day range? We started pouches in 2 ways and may be thinking of many more projects. This photo really does not do the range justice. Come in to see these fabrics sing.

New Kits

We have been making a variety of Fat 1/16th packs. We are trying to do both themed as well as colour way packs. These are proving to be very popular and we will make different sort of packs as the year progresses. Here's a look at what is available currently. These are available both in store as well as online.

Lastly, we are making fabric and foam packs (some include vinyl and zippers) to complement our ByAnnie classes and patterns. These are almost finished and I will feature them in our next newsletter along with the patterns and classes.

Anyway I must run, off to see my mum, then stand on the soccer sideline. Apres boots may be necessary, LOL.

Stay warm, stay safe, enjoy your weekend and try and find some time to sew.

Regards

Bernadette and Ian
